Was f\u00fcr ein Land! Es fing gleich in Langkawi an, \u00fcberall Rennradfahrer! Es dauerte nicht lang, da quatschte ich schon mit Einigen. Die Jungs vom malaysischen Nationalteam erkl\u00e4rten mir, dass das gr\u00f6\u00dfte asiatische Rennen bevorsteht. \u201eTour de Langkawi\u201c ist so was wie die \u201eTour de France\u201c!<\/p>\n

Am n\u00e4chsten Tag ging’s f\u00fcr mich nach Pinang. Am Hafen von Langkawi lernte ich einen Longdistance Biker aus Thailand kennen. \u201eLeck\u201c kommt aus Phuket und tourt durch S\u00fcdostasien. Ein \u00e4u\u00dferst netter Typ mit einer besonderen Ausstrahlung. Radfahren ist f\u00fcr ihn die Balance von K\u00f6rper und Seele. Bei wenigen Menschen sah ich bisher diese Verk\u00f6rperung von Leidenschaft. Daumen hoch!! George Town oder besser Pinang City, wie die Einheimischen die Stadt nennen, ist eine alte Kolonialstadt der Engl\u00e4nder mit viel Geschichte. Erstaunen lie\u00df mich aber, dass dort Moscheen, Hindutempel, buddhistische Tempel und katholische Kirchen Nachbarn sind. Suchte und fand die Antworten zum harmonischen und friedlichen Miteinander. Die Antwort war, die ich immer wieder h\u00f6rte \u201eWe are one Malaysia\u201c. Unglaublich!<\/p>\n

An meinem Geburtstag startete ich Richtung Kuala Lumpur. An dem Tag endete die dritte Etappe der Tour de Lankawi in Butterworth. Ich sah die Jungs von der Nationalmannschaft wieder. Sie sch\u00fcttelten den Kopf, als sie mich sahen. Die folgenden Tage hatten wir wohl immer dieselbe St\u00e4rke. Fasziniert und vom Rennfieber gepackt, bem\u00fchte ich mich immer, vor ihnen am Ziel zu sein, um sie anzufeuern. Donnerte so schnell wie m\u00f6glich \u00fcber die Stra\u00dfen, nahm jede Abk\u00fcrzung wahr, verzichtete auf Pausen und am Ende hatte ich schon 100 km bis Mittag gerissen. Mein Terra, der so was wie mein bester Freund geworden ist, machte wie bisher keinerlei Erm\u00fcdungserscheinungen. Ganz im Gegenteil, wenn er irgendwo mal stand, kam er mir total gelangweilt vor. Nach dem zweiten Tag, an dem ich sozusagen mitfuhr, hielt ein Versorgungsfahrzeug der Mannschaft an. Die Techniker luden mich ein, nach dem Rennen in’s Mannschaftshotel zu kommen. Sie hatten zwar kein Bett mehr frei, daf\u00fcr ich eine Matte. Ein super Abend, wir waren Essen und quatschten \u00fcber das Rennen und meine Reise, w\u00e4hrend die Profis sich massieren lie\u00dfen. Die sah ich leider immer nur am Morgen und im Ziel, dazwischen hatten sie ein ziemliches Programm. Schlie\u00dflich ging’s f\u00fcr sie zur ersten Bergetappe! Da trennten sich auch unsere Wege. Am ersten Februar beenden sie das Rennen in Kuala Lumpur und ich werde nat\u00fcrlich dabei sein!<\/p>\n

Auf dem Weg lernte ich noch Fred Rambo, 73 Jahre alt, aus Kanada kennen. Der \u00e4lteste Radreisende bisher, sein Rad ist nicht viel j\u00fcnger… :-) Er ist grad auf dem Weg von Singapur nach Bangkok. Hut ab, mein Herr!<\/p>\n

Kuala Lumpur ist eine Megastadt mit vielen Gegens\u00e4tzen. W\u00e4hrend auf der einen Seite das einst h\u00f6chste Geb\u00e4ude der Welt, die Petronas Towers oder besser gesagt die Twin Towers, wie die Locals sie nennen, von weiteren Wolkenkratzern umgeben sind und sie eine wahnsinns Skyline bilden, sind nicht weit davon die, die an diesem Wohlstand keinen Anteil haben. Es gibt hier wie fast in jeder Megastadt ein Chinatown, aber auch little India. Buntes und lebhaftes Treiben auf den Stra\u00dfen abseits der Skyline dominieren das Geschehen der Stadt und verleihen einen besonderen Touch. Die Menschen kommen auch hier aus verschiedensten Kultur- und Glaubensrichtungen. Bilden damit eine richtig nette Multi-Kulti-Gesellschaft. Zwischen den Wolkenkratzern l\u00e4uft die Zeit ein wenig schneller, w\u00e4hrend die besch\u00e4ftigten Gesch\u00e4ftsm\u00e4nner zu Arbeit sausen, l\u00e4uft die Jugend der Moderne vorbei und setzt Modetrends wie in jeder anderen Stadt.<\/p>\n

Hier lernte ich den n\u00e4chsten verr\u00fcckten Radnomaden kennen. Bekannt war er mir schon in Nepal. Jeder Nepalese, mit dem ich sprach, erz\u00e4hlte mir von ihm. Er hei\u00dft Saurab, ist 22 Jahre alt und radlt seit 2002, bis 2020 will er 150 L\u00e4nder bereisen und das alles ohne Geld! Seine Geschichte ist einmalig und unfassbar! Er kann keine Landkarte lesen, irgendjemand hat ihm ein Navi geschenkt, das aber geklaut worden ist… In den letzten 10 Jahren legte er eine Strecke von 56.000 km zur\u00fcck, f\u00e4hrt mittlerweile sein sechstes Radl, die Anderen wurden ihm ebenfalls gestohlen… Als wir zusammen in der Stadt unterwegs waren, sperrte er es auch nie ab… Sein Equipment ist mehr als d\u00fcrftig, ohne Kocher und Werkzeug ist er unterwegs… Essen tut er, was er bekommt, ein Mords-Schild an seinem Fahrrad zieht die Blicke auf sich. Dann erz\u00e4hlt er seine Geschichte und packt einen Ordner mit Zeitungsberichten aus Nepal und sonstigen Papieren aus. Seine Homepage ist grad im Aufbau, jemand aus Indien baut sie auf www.worldcyclistsaurab.com<\/a>. Ihr findet ihn aber auch bei Facebook. Im kommenden Jahr will er auch nach Europa kommen. Ein sehr eigenartiger Typ, jedenfalls ist er der ber\u00fchmteste Radlfahrer aus Nepal.<\/p>\n

F\u00fcr meine Wenigkeit hei\u00dft’s jetzt erst mal ein Visum f\u00fcr die USA besorgen und dann ab nach Singapur!<\/p>\n

What a country! It already started in Langkawi, race bikers everywhere! It didn\u2019t take long until I talked to some of them! The guys from the Malaysian national team explained that the biggest Asian race is about to start. \u201cTour de Langkawi\u201c is something like the \u201cTour de France\u201c!<\/span><\/p>\n

The next day I went to Pinang. At the port of Langkawi I got to know a long-distance biker from Thailand. \u201cLeck\u201d is from Phuket and tours through Southeast Asia. A totally nice guy with a special charisma. For him, biking is the balance of body and mind. I\u2019ve seen this embodiment of passion in only a few people so far. Thumbs up!! George Town or better Pinang City, as the locals call the city, is an old British colonial town with lots of history. I was astonished that mosques, Hindu temples, Buddhist temples and Catholic churches neighbor each other there. I searched and found the answers for a harmonious and peaceful co-existence. The answer that I repeatedly heard was: \u201cWe are one Malaysia\u201d. Incredible!<\/span><\/p>\n

On my birthday I started towards Kuala Lumpur. On this day, the third stage of the Tour de Lankawi ended in Butterworth. I again met the guys from the national team. They shook their heads when they saw me. The following day, we presumably were equal in strength. Fascinated and gripped by the racing flu, I always exerted myself to reach the finish before them to cheer for them. As fast as I could I shot through the streets, took every short cut, omitted breaks and in the end I already covered 100 km until noon. My terra, which had become something like my best friend, hasn\u2019t got tired so far. Quite the opposite: When it stood somewhere, it made a bored impression to me. On the second day, on which I literally participated, a care vehicle of the team stopped. The technicians invited me to come to the hotel after the race. Though they didn\u2019t have a spare bed, I had a camping mat. It was a great evening; we dined out and talked about the race and my journey while the professionals had a massage. Unfortunately, I only saw them in the morning and at the finish, in-between they had a tough program. Finally, it was time for them for their first mountain stage! And there we went our separate ways. They finish the race in Kuala Lumpur on 1 February, and of course I\u2019m going to be there!<\/span><\/p>\n

On my way I also got to know Fred Rambo, 73 years old, from Canada. He\u2019s been the oldest bike traveler so far, and his bike isn\u2019t much younger\u2026 :-) He\u2019s on his way from Singapore to Bangkok. Respect, man!<\/span><\/p>\n

Kuala Lumpur is a megacity with many contrasts. While on the one hand the former highest building in the world \u2013 the Petronas Towers, or Twin Towers, as the locals call them \u2013 is surrounded by further skyscrapers, thus building an amazing skyline, there are very close those, on the other hand, who don\u2019t share this wealth. Like in almost all megacities, there is also China Town, but also Little India. Colorful and vivid buzz of activities in the streets offside the skyline dominate the going-ons of the city and make it a special atmosphere. People here have different cultures and beliefs, thus making it a real multicultural society. Between the skyscrapers time goes by a little bit faster, and while busy businessmen hurry to work, the modern youth walks by and sets fashion trends like in every other city.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here I got to know the next crazy bike nomad. He had been known to me already in Nepal. Every Nepalese I had talked to told me about him. His name is Saurab, he\u2019s 22 years old and he\u2019s been biking since 2002 and until 2020 he wants to travel to 150 countries, and all this without money! His story is unique and sensational! He can\u2019t read any maps, and someone gave him a navigation system as a present which, however, was stolen\u2026During the last 10 years he has covered a distance of 56,000 km, his current bike is his sixth in the meantime because the others were stolen, too\u2026When we were en route together in the city, he didn\u2019t even lock his bike\u2026 His equipment is more than scanty; he\u2019s on his way without a cooker and tools\u2026 He eats what he can get, and a huge sign on his bike attracts attention. Then he tells his story and unpacks a folder with newspaper stories as well as other papers. His homepage is being set-up at the moment by someone from India: www.worldcyclistsaurab.com<\/a>. You\u2019ll also find him on Facebook. The following year he intends to come to Europe. He\u2019s a very peculiar guy, but anyway, the most famous biker from Nepal.<\/span><\/p>\n
