Indien ist schon gew\u00f6hnungsbed\u00fcrftig. Ganz klar, f\u00fcr Radfahrer ist es\u00a0 nicht zu empfehlen! Zum Gl\u00fcck gibt’s Nepal als Puffer mit der Akklimatisierung der anderen Art, bevor man auf eine andere Welt prallt. Nach vier Tagen Aufenthalt in Varanasi steigen aber die Neugier und das Interesse. Ich lernte dort supernette Leute kennen, sowohl Touris als auch Locals. Um nur einen zu erw\u00e4hnen. Ingomar aus Rosenheim. Der erste Bayer seit Europa! Und was f\u00fcr einer. Trainierte letztes Jahr die Jugend bei den L\u00f6wen und kam grad aus Nepal, wo er am Annapurna und Everest wochenlang unterwegs war. Einfach ein saucooler Typ!<\/p>\n

Interessant in Varanasi war definitiv der Ganges! Zur Monsunzeit steigt der Pegel und \u00fcberschwemmt Teile der Altstadt – gut an den Bildern zu erkennen (die hohen Mauern der Geb\u00e4ude). In Varanasi bestattet zu werden ist was Spezielles, hier unterbricht man die Reinkarnation und gelangt sofort ins Nirvana! Es besteht ein dichtes Kastensystem, das schon seit Tausenden Jahren funktioniert, ohne besonderer sichtlicher Ver\u00e4nderungen. Die Gassen mit ihren Menschen und B\u00e4umen, die durch die H\u00e4user wachsen, verleihen einen ganz besonderen Charme. Es ist eine Welt, die f\u00fcr uns \u00fcbelst arm und chaotisch erscheint, dabei ist sie wahnsinnig reich an Kultur und Geschichte.<\/p>\n

Das Fahren fiel mir jetzt ein wenig leichter. War auf dem Highway 2 unterwegs. Hier ist die Stra\u00dfe zweispurig in jede Richtung und damit sehr breit. Manchmal werden daraus f\u00fcnf Spuren oder es kommen welche entgegen, aber damit kann ich mittlerweile gut leben. Es kam \u00f6fter vor, dass mich Motorradfahrer kilometerlang begleiteten und wir quatschten einfach. Zwar das \u00dcbliche, woher, wohin, aber f\u00fcr mich eine sehr nette Abwechslung zur Stra\u00dfe und der Wachsamkeit. Wenn ich anhielt, um Wasser zu tanken oder zu essen, waren sofort Menschen da und es wurden mit jeder Minute mehr. Dasselbe auch beim Zelten, sogar nachts kamen Zuschauer und wollten ins Zelt schauen… Als l\u00e4stig empfand ich das nicht mehr, seit Varanasi wusste ich damit umzugehen…<\/p>\n

Es juckt und zwickt in den Beinen, sie wollen brennen und arbeiten! Unglaublich, als ob man im Himalaya einen Motor eingebaut h\u00e4tte! W\u00e4ren die Tage nur l\u00e4nger… Die Sonne geht um 17 Uhr unter. Es ist Winterzeit, auch wenn einem das bei 28 Grad echt seltsam vorkommt… Sonst w\u00fcrd’s mich schon interessieren, was machbar ist…?<\/p>\n

Bei einer der Pausen au\u00dferhalb von Kiosk und Stra\u00dfenk\u00fcche, wo man 10 Min alleine ist, kam ein Tuk-Tuk vorbei. Netter Typ, der nat\u00fcrlich dieselben Fragen stellte, aber von einem besonderen Ort in der N\u00e4he erz\u00e4hlte. Es hat nicht lang gedauert, da hat er mich schon eingeladen! Naja, die letzte Einladung war in China, warum nicht… Etwa 20 km n\u00f6rdlich von der NH2 blieben wir in Bothgaya stehen. Sein Bruder hat ein Gasthaus, 300 Rupien die Nacht. Was f\u00fcr ein Fuchs… Nun, der Ort \u00e4hnelt Lumbini, viele verschiedene Tempel. Zu der Zeit findet dort zum sechsten Mal das internationale Treffen der Buddhisten statt. Aus aller Welt pilgern sie hierher zum Fu\u00dfe des Berges, wo einst der Buddha sechs Jahre meditierte. Eine besondere Atmosph\u00e4re ohne Spannungen! Leider kam auch dort kein Gespr\u00e4ch zustande. H\u00e4tte noch einen Tag dranh\u00e4ngen sollen. Andererseits vielleicht auch gut so, die Antworten wird das Leben schon bringen…<\/p>\n

Kurz vor Kalkutta machte ich noch einen Abstecher in Bishnupur, dort gibt es alte Terrakotta-Tempel. Irgendwie hat es mich nicht besonders beeindruckt. Vermutlich ist die Geschichte des Ortes spannender… Nach meiner R\u00fcckkehr hab ich so einige Nachforschungen auf dem Zettel.<\/p>\n

Ich wei\u00df jetzt, was f\u00fcr mich Reisen bedeutet. Es ist nicht das Ankommen, sondern das unterwegs sein. St\u00e4ndig neue Sachen und Situationen, Land und Leute hautnah erleben! Wobei Ankommen auch saucool ist, mal spazieren gehen und nicht immer auf das Zeug achten!<\/p>\n

Nun bin ich in Kalkutta und organisiere gerade meinen Flug nach Bangkok. Zur Stadt kann ich noch nix sagen, bin gerade eben erst angekommen. Es war eine gute Entscheidung, Indien noch eine Chance zu geben. Mein Bild hat sich ein wenig ver\u00e4ndert. Ein ganz klarer Vorteil hier ist, dass man sich um Essen und Trinken nicht k\u00fcmmern braucht. An jeder Ecke, alle paar Kilometer, ist ein Stand mit leckerem Essen! Manchmal hat das Essen auch Folgen, die ich lieber nicht erw\u00e4hne… Ein Slogan, der mir nicht aus dem Kopf geht: India = I never do it again! Was das Radfahren betrifft, stimm ich voll und ganz zu!<\/p>\n

India is a country you really have to get used to. And it is surely not recommendable for biking! Luckily, there is Nepal as a buffer with acclimatization of a different kind before colliding into another world. After a four-day stay in Varanasi, curiosity and interest increase though. I got to know very nice people; tourists as well as locals. Just to mention one of them: Ingomar from Rosenheim. The first Bavarian since Europe! And what a guy! Last year, he coached the youth team at the \u201cL\u00f6wen\u201d soccer club and just arrived from Nepal where he had been on his way at the Annapurna and the Everest for weeks. Simply a damn cool guy!<\/span><\/p>\n

In Varanasi, the Ganges was definitely interesting! During the monsoon time, the water level rises and floods part of the historic city center \u2013 this can be clearly seen from the pics (the high walls of the buildings). To be cremated in Varanasi is special because reincarnation is interrupted there and one directly goes into nirvana! There is a compact caste system which has worked for thousands of years without any particular obvious changes. The small alleys with its people and trees growing through houses are especially charming. It is a world that seems thoroughly poor and chaotic to us, but it is extremely rich in culture and history.<\/span><\/p>\n

Biking was now a bit easier for me. I was travelling on Highway 2. There the street has two lanes for each direction and is thus very broad. Sometimes five lanes are made out of it or someone heads directly towards you, but meanwhile I can live with it quite well. Several times I was accompanied by motorcyclists and we just chatted for kilometers. Although it was the usual \u2013 where from, where to \u2013 it was a very nice diversion to the street and the vigilance. When I stopped for refilling water or eating, there were immediately people around me, getting more with each minute. The same happened when I camped: Even at night, spectators wanted to take a look into the tent. I didn\u2019t find it annoying anymore because since Varanasi I knew how to deal with it\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

In my legs I can feel the urge to move; they want to hurt and work again! Incredible, as if a motor was integrated into them at the Himalayas! I wish the days were longer\u2026 The sun sets at 5 pm. It\u2019s winter time here, even if it feels strange with a temperature of 28 degrees. Otherwise I\u2019d would like to know what\u2019s possible\u2026?<\/span><\/p>\n

During one of the breaks outside of kiosks and street kitchens, where you are alone for 10 minutes, a tuk-tuk came by. A nice guy who of course asked the same questions but also told me about a special place nearby. It didn\u2019t take long until he invited me! Well, I received the last invitation in China, so why not\u2026 Approx. 20 km north of the NH2 we stopped in Bothgaya. His brother had a guesthouse for 300 rupees per night. What a smart guy\u2026 Well, the place resembles Lumbini, with many different temples. At this time, the sixth international meeting of Buddhists takes place there. People from all over the world make a pilgrimage to this place where the Buddha had meditated for six years. An exceptional atmosphere without tension! Unfortunately, no conversation came up. I should have added another day. On a second thought, may it\u2019s good like this, life will surely provide answers \u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Shortly before Calcutta I made a detour in Bishnupur where there are old terra cotta temples. Somehow it didn\u2019t impress me much. The story of the place is presumably more interesting\u2026 I\u2019ve added some things to my note pad to research after my return.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now I know what traveling means to me. It\u2019s not about arriving but about being on the way. All along new things and situations, experiencing customs and cultures first-hand! Although it\u2019s totally cool to arrive somewhere, to take a walk and not to have to pay attention to the stuff!<\/span><\/p>\n

Now I\u2019m in Calcutta and I\u2019m organizing my flight to Bangkok. I can\u2019t say anything about the city yet as I\u2019ve just arrived. It was a good decision to give India another chance. The picture I have in my mind has changed a little bit. An obvious advantage here is that you don\u2019t have to look after food and drink. In every corner, every few kilometers there is a stand with delicious food! Sometimes, eating this food has consequences which I\u2019d rather not like to mention\u2026 One slogan which I can\u2019t get out of my head: \u201cIndia = I\u2019ll never do it again\u201d! As regards to biking, I totally agree!<\/span><\/p>\n
