Im Zug nach Lhasa lernten wir Mathieu aus Shanghai kennen – er hat denselben Plan. Somit sind wir jetzt zu dritt! Der verr\u00fcckte Halbengl\u00e4nder, Halbchinese ist in einer Jogginghose und Rucksack hergekommen. Kurzerhand besorgte er sich hier alles N\u00f6tige, ein Permit braucht er nicht…<\/p>\n

Apropos Permit. Im letzten Beitrag beschrieb ich den Weg nach Tibet. Es gibt eine sichere und permitfreie Variante, um nach Lhasa zu kommen. Auch Unterk\u00fcnfte, die einen ohne Permit aufnehmen! In der Stadt kontrolliert niemand! Wer Lust bekommt nach Nepal zu fahren, kann dann hier ohne Probleme eine Tour organisieren. Allerdings mit F\u00fchrer und Jeep. F\u00fcr Individualreisende gibt’s dann auch permitfreie L\u00f6sungen. Ein wenig Geschick und Gl\u00fcck geh\u00f6rt aber immer dazu.
\nWerd den Weg hier nicht ver\u00f6ffentlichen, um diese L\u00fccke offen zu lassen. Schreibt einfach, ich werde per E-Mail antworten und der Kontakt bzw. Info erfolgt dann auf anderen Wegen.<\/p>\n

So, jetzt zu Lhasa. Es ist ein Mix aus einer magischen Altstadt, in der Hochlandgras in der Luft liegt und an jeder Ecke schwer bewaffnete Soldaten stehen. Dazwischen tummeln Chinesen, Touristen und die Tibeter, die nicht von dieser Welt scheinen… Diese Gew\u00e4nder, markante Gesichter, die meist l\u00e4cheln und die seltsame Ger\u00e4usche vor sich her summen… Dazu kommen die, die tage-, wochenlang auf dem Weg zum Potala-Tempel alle drei Schritte zu Boden fallen und mit der Stirn den Boden ber\u00fchren. Sie haben richtige Flecken und Beulen auf der Stirn, wenn sie hier ankommen! Unglaublich, was f\u00fcr ein Wille! Der Tempel wie z.B. Potala wirkt gro\u00df und m\u00e4chtig, innen aber eher wie ein Museum. Das Leben innerhalb dieser Mauern scheint der Vergangenheit anzugeh\u00f6ren… M\u00f6nche, die man innen sieht, sitzen an allen Ecken und achten darauf, dass nicht fotografiert wird. In einem anderen Tempel gab es eine Philosophierunde der M\u00f6nche, bei der man dabei sein durfte. Es wirkte auf mich wie ein Zoo. Im Hof M\u00f6nche und rundherum Touris, die Fotos machten. Hab mir sagen lassen, dass es fr\u00fcher anders war. Ein Lama sa\u00df zwischen den M\u00f6nchen und antwortete auf Fragen. Heut gibt es hier keine Lamas mehr… Bei einem kleinen Bike-Ausflug mit Ahoi, Besitzer des Bike-Hostels, in dem ich schlief (www.tibetbike.com<\/a> wird demn\u00e4chst ins Englische \u00fcbersetzt), besichtigten wir einen Tempel in den Bergen. Eine kleine Testfahrt auf knappe 4.000 hm. Dort sah man noch M\u00f6nche, die zusammen irgendwelche Verse in einem trance\u00e4hnlichen Zustand lasen. Man sp\u00fcrte regelrecht die Energie. Vielleicht lag es auch an der H\u00f6he und dem Duft nach Hochlandgras im Raum… Nebenan gab es eine buddhistische Stelle, wo man die Toten verabschiedet. Sie werden gehackt und den Raubv\u00f6geln geopfert. Somit fliest die Energie weiter… Es gibt verschiedene Arten, wie sie die Toten verabschieden, das ist nur die eine.
\nLhasa ist auf jeden Fall ein magischer und h\u00f6chst interessanter Ort, trotz der Milit\u00e4r- und Polizeipr\u00e4senz! Die Menschen scheinen hier weitaus ruhiger zu sein. Hab mir sagen lassen, dass es f\u00fcr die Chinesen eine Art Hippie-Ort ist… Nette Bars, super Essen und prima Leute!<\/p>\n

Nun starten wir in wenigen Stunden! Kann es kaum erwarten, endlich wieder zu pedalieren! Raus aus der Stadt mit L\u00e4rm, Gestank und Autos. Ab in die weite Landschaft Tibets, Stille und Einsamkeit des Himalaya. Unglaublich, wie das kribbelt, wenn ich daran denke! Der erste Pass ist am Samstag dran, es geht auf 5.200 hm! Hoffe nur, dass uns niemand aufh\u00e4lt…

On the train to Lhasa we got to know Mathieu from Shanghai \u2013 he has the same plan. Now there are three of us! The crazy guy \u2013 half English, half Chinese \u2013 came here in his jogging pants and with a backpack. Here he quickly took care of everything he needed, and he doesn\u2019t need a permit\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking of permit: In my last article I wrote about the way to Tibet. There is a safe and permit-free alternative to get to Lhasa. There are also accommodations that don\u2019t require a permit! There aren\u2019t controls in the city! Should you feel like going to Nepal, you can arrange a tour easily, though you need a guide and a jeep. For individual travelers, there are also permit-free alternatives. However, you always need a bit of talent and luck.

Now to Lhasa. It is like a magical historic city center in which the scent of high land grass is in the air and in which you find heavily armed soldiers in every corner. In between there are Chinese, tourists, and Tibetans bustling around who seem not to be from this world\u2026 The Tibetans with chiseled features in their robes, mostly smiling and humming strange sounds to themselves\u2026Further, there are those who throw themselves to the ground and touch it with their forehead every three steps on their way to the Potala Palace for days, even weeks. They have proper spots and swellings on their forehead when they arrive here! Incredible, what an ambition! The temple, like for example the Potala Palace, seems big and powerful from the outside but it is rather like a museum from the inside. Life within these walls seems to be past\u2026 Monks, who can be seen inside, sit in every corner and see that no pictures are taken. In another temple there was a monks\u2019 philosophy round which you could attend. To me, it seemed like a zoo. In the yard, there were monks with tourists all around taking pictures. I was told that it was different in the past: In between monks, there was a lama answering questions. Today, there aren\u2019t any lamas here anymore… During a little bike tour with Ahoi, the owner of a bike hostel in which I stayed overnight (www.tibetbike.com<\/a> will be translated into English soon), we visited a temple in the mountains. A little test round to approx. 4,000 meters in altitude. There, you could still see monks who were together reading some verses in a trance-like state. You could actually feel the energy. Maybe it was just due to altitude and the scent of high land grass in the room\u2026 Next to it, there was a Buddhist place where you say farewell to the dead. They are chopped into pieces and offered to the raptors as sacrifices. They have different ways to say farewell to the dead, this is only one of them.
\nIn any case, Lhasa is a magical and highly interesting place, despite the presence of the military and police! People seem to be far calmer here. I was told that for the Chinese this place is kind of a hippie place\u2026 Nice bars, delicious food and neat people!<\/span><\/p>\n

Now we\u2019re moving on in a couple of hours! I can hardly wait to be on the bike again! Out of the city with its noises, smell and cars. And off to the wide land of Tibet, the quietness and loneliness of the Himalayas. It is incredible how it prickles when I think of it! The first pass is due on Saturday, up to 5,200 meters in altitude! I just hope that no one stops us\u2026
