Kaum in Almaty angekommen, fuhr ich direkt vom Flughafen zum Bahnhof. Dort erfuhr ich, dass der n\u00e4chste Zug nach Urumqi, der drei Tage nach meiner Ankunft ging, bereits voll war… Somit h\u00e4tte ich \u00fcber eine Woche warten m\u00fcssen. Mein Taxifahrer, der ohne Taxischild unterwegs war (wohl einer aus der Schattenwirtschaft), bot mir an, mich f\u00fcr 100 $ an die Grenze zu fahren. Nun ja, im Hinterkopf hatte ich noch die Info, dass der \u00dcbergang noch mal ca. 250 $ kostet. Shamil, mein Fahrer, versicherte mir, dass ich im Bus r\u00fcber kann und das f\u00fcr lau. Also ab zu Yaroslavna, mein Equipment holen und an Tee trinken. Keine drei Stunden nach der Landung war ich auf dem Weg nach China!<\/p>\n

An der Grenze der Schock. Da war kein Bus, der mich r\u00fcber f\u00e4hrt und die Grenze war dicht! Nach kurzen Recherchen bei den Truckern erfuhr ich, dass die Grenze bereits seit 7 Tagen dicht war und sie am n\u00e4chsten Tag aufmachen… Grund daf\u00fcr war irgendein Nationalfest der Chinesen. Da blieb nichts anderes \u00fcbrig, als zu warten… Am Tag darauf war ich um 6 Uhr morgens am Grenz\u00fcbergang. Da traf ich eine Expeditionsgruppe aus Italien. Ein Konvoi aus vier Wohnmobilen (was denn sonst :-)), zwei Lastern sowie vier Elektrofahrzeugen. Es war eine Testfahrt der Elektromobile. Die Gruppe war total nett. Sie boten mir einen Espresso an und wir unterhielten uns, bis die Schranke aufging. Nachdem der kasachische Zoll nur mein Pass sehen wollte und mich Richtung China fahren lie\u00df, stieg die Spannung in mir. Lassen die mich so rein? Was ist mit den Infos aus dem Netz bez\u00fcglich 250 $ \u00dcberf\u00fchrungskosten? Nach zwei weiteren Checkpoints musste ich pl\u00f6tzlich doch in einen Bus. Der kostete aber nur 350 Tenge, etwa 1,75 \u20ac. Es war und ist wohl ein Tippfehler bez\u00fcglich des Grenz\u00fcbergangs im Netz…<\/p>\n

Die chinesische Grenze glich einem Hochsicherheitstrakt. Zum ersten Mal hat man mein Gep\u00e4ck v\u00f6llig auseinandergenommen. Selbst die Bilder meiner Kamera wurden angeschaut… Die Prozedur dauerte eine Weile und ich lenkte eine Menge Aufmerksamkeit auf mich. Es dauerte nicht lang, da kam ein weiterer Z\u00f6llner aus einem B\u00fcro und quetschte mich interessiert \u00fcber meine Reise aus. Es war das \u00dcbliche: warum, wie lang, wohin usw. Nat\u00fcrlich sagte ich nicht, dass ich nach Nepal will, da w\u00e4ren wohl allen die Lichter angegangen. Stattessen nannte ich mein Ziel Beijing. W\u00e4hrend der Unterhaltung, die einem Verh\u00f6r glich, lud mich der Z\u00f6llner zum Essen ein – er h\u00e4tte in einer Stunde Feierabend. Was h\u00e4tte ich machen sollen? Er hatte noch meinen Pass in der Hand. Nach 8 Std. Grenzaction rollte ich die ersten Meter auf dem chinesischen Boden! Es war doch besser, die Grenze auf diesem Weg zu \u00fcberqueren. Es f\u00fchlt sich besser an! Nun wartete ich auf den Z\u00f6llner, er sprach ein Englisch mit einem so derben Akzent, dass ich ihn kaum verstand. Kurzerhand lud er mein Bike in sein Auto und wir fuhren zu ihm nach Haus. 70 km weiter in Yining waren wir da. Die Stadt stand bei mir so gar nicht auf dem Zettel, aber jetzt auch schon wurst. Luo entpuppte sich als ein richtig cooler Typ! Wir waren lecker Essen, er zeigte mir einen Uni-Campus und danach gingen wir sogar feiern! Unglaublich! Nat\u00fcrlich schlief ich auch bei ihm und am n\u00e4chsten Tag brachte er mich zum Busbahnhof, von wo ich dann nach Urumqi fuhr.<\/p>\n

Ausgelaugt von den letzten Tagen und der Erk\u00e4ltung, die ich aus M\u00fcnchen mitgebracht habe, legte ich mich in Urumqi nur noch schlafen. Zuvor besorgte ich noch ein Busticket nach Hami. Dabei lernte ich einen Franzosen kennen, der in Beijing lebt und grad eine China-Fahrradtour beendet hat. Wahnsinn! Wie das Schicksal so will, schlief ich ca. 14 Std. und verschlief den Bus… Nun total genervt \u00fcber mich selbst, ging ich zum Bahnhof und versuchte von dort nach Lanzhou zu kommen. Das klappte und keine zwei Stunden sp\u00e4ter sa\u00df ich im Zug. Mein Bike schaffte es nicht ganz und kommt einen Tag sp\u00e4ter. Im Zug die n\u00e4chste Bekanntschaft, zwei Jungs aus Israel auf einem Asia-Trip.<\/p>\n

Nun sitz ich hier nach 24 Std. Zugfahrt und wart auf mein Bike. Danach fahr ich mit dem n\u00e4chsten Zug weiter nach Golmud und von dort aus dann nach …!<\/p>\n

Kleine Randnotizen. In den ersten Tagen tr\u00e4umte ich nur vom Rikscha fahren, so intensiv ist die Wiesn (Oktoberfest). Die Erk\u00e4ltung hat mich immer noch voll im Griff… In China gilt die Pekingzeit, d.h. MEZ +6. Zu guter Letzt, mein Fahrradcomputer ist im Arsch! Das langweilt tierisch! Hoffentlich kann ich einen Neuen auftreiben! Ah ja, ich schrieb im letzten Beitrag \u00fcber das schnelle Leben in M\u00fcnchen – ich war ja noch nicht in China… Das hier ist der pure Stress, keine Verkehrsregeln und es stinkt. Der Smog l\u00e4sst die Berge in 20 km nur durch die Konturen erkennen…<\/p>\n

I had hardly arrived in Almaty, when I directly went from the airport to the train station. There I learned that the next train to Urumqi, which was scheduled for departure three days after my arrival, was already fully booked. This would mean to wait for more than one week. My cab driver, who was on the road without a cab sign (probably from a shadow economy), offered to bring me to the border for $ 100. Well, I still had in mind that crossing the border would cost another $ 250. Shamil, my driver, assured me that I could take the bus to cross the border, and this for free. Then off I was to Yaroslavna to get my equipment and to have a cup of tea. Hardly three hours after my arrival I was on the way to China!<\/span><\/p>\n

And then the shock at the border. There was no bus which could bring me, and the border was closed! After asking some truckers, I learned that the border had been closed for already seven days and that it would be opened the next day\u2026The reason for that was a Chinese national festivity. There was nothing else to do but wait\u2026 The following day I was at the border at 6 am. There I met an expedition group from Italy. A convoy of four motor homes (what else <\/span>:-)<\/span>), two trucks and four electric cars. It was a test drive for the electric cars. The group was totally nice. They offered me espresso, and we were talking until the gate was opened. Because Kazakh customs only wanted to see my passport and let me go towards China, tension increased within me. Will they allow me to enter like that? What about the information from the internet about the $ 250 destination charge? After two further checkpoints, I suddenly had to get onto a bus. But it only cost 350 tenge, approximately \u20ac 1.75. It apparently was and still is a typo in the internet regarding the border crossing\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chinese border equaled a maximum-security prison. For the first time, my luggage was completely picked to pieces. Even the pictures on my camera were looked at\u2026 The procedure took a while and much attention was drawn to me. I didn\u2019t take long until a second customs officer came out of an office and picked my brain with interest about my journey. The usual: why, how long, where to and so on. Of course I didn\u2019t tell him that I wanted to go to Nepal because then they would have got the hint. Instead, I told them my destination: Beijing. During our conversation \u2013 which seemed more like an interrogation \u2013 the customs officer invited me for dinner as his shift was to end in an hour. What should I have done elsewise? He was still holding my passport in his hands. After 8 hours of action at the border, I was finally cycling the first meters on Chinese soil! In the end, this was the better way to cross the border. It simply feels better! Then I was waiting for the customs officer who spoke English with such a heavy accent that I could hardly understand him. Without further ado, he loaded my bike into his car and we drove to his house. After 70 km we arrived at his home in Yining. The city wasn\u2019t part of my tour at all, but what the hey. It turned out that Luo was a really cool dude! We had a delicious dinner, he showed me a university campus and afterwards we even went out to party! Incredible! Of course I stayed at his house overnight, and the next day he gave me a ride to the bus station from which I continued to Urumqi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exhausted by the last days and the flu, which I brought back from Munich, I only slept in Urumqi. Before that I had bought a bus ticket to Hami. In doing so, I got to know a Frenchman who lives in Beijing and who had just finished a bike tour through China. Amazing! But fate called \u2013 I slept approx. 14 hours and missed the bus\u2026 Totally unnerved by myself, I went to the station and tried to get to Lanzhou from there. It worked, and after less than two hours I was on the train. My bike didn\u2019t quite make it and will arrive one day later. And on the train the next acquaintance: two guys from Israel on their Asia trip.<\/span><\/p>\n

After a 24-hour train ride I\u2019m sitting here waiting for my bike. Then I will take the next train to Golmud and from there I\u2019m off to \u2026!<\/span><\/p>\n

Marginal notes. During the first nights, I dreaming of driving rickshaw; that\u2019s how intense the \u201cWiesn\u201d (Oktoberfest) is. The flu still has a tight grip on me\u2026 It\u2019s Peking time in China, i.e. CET +6. In the end, my bike computer is broken! This really annoys me! I hope I can get a new one! Oh, and in my last article I was writing about the fast life Munich \u2013 at that time I hadn\u2019t been in China\u2026 This is pure stress here, no traffic rules and it stinks. Through the smog, you can only see the silhouette of the mountains in 20 km distance\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
