Alleine die Zugfahrt war ein Ding. Morgens um halb 4 kamen wir am Bahnhof an, 1 1\/2 Stunden vor der Abfahrt. Da hie\u00df es auf einmal, dass wir die R\u00e4der nicht mitnehmen k\u00f6nnen, weil wir daf\u00fcr keine Tickets haben… Beim Kauf der Fahrscheine drei Tage zuvor hat man uns versichert, dass die R\u00e4der inbegriffen sind und wir die mit ins Abteil nehmen k\u00f6nnen… Alle Schalter waren um diese Zeit geschlossen, somit der Kauf der fehlenden Tickets unm\u00f6glich. Mit ein paar Brocken Russisch konnte ich den Schaffner doch noch umstimmen und musste ihn selbstverst\u00e4ndlich schmieren. In dieser Lage waren wir einfach nur froh, dass wir mitfahren konnten. Es sah lange Zeit nicht danach aus. Unsere R\u00e4der kamen komplett mit Gep\u00e4ck in den Gep\u00e4ckwagen. Die Buchung der Zweierkabine war dann \u00fcberfl\u00fcssig… Dazu kam dann noch, dass wir eine Station vor Aral mit in dem Gep\u00e4ckwagen mitfahren mussten, weil der Zug in Aral nur 5 Minuten hielt. Egal, wann ist man schon mal im Gep\u00e4ckwagen mitgefahren? Am Ende ging alles gut und wir kamen 19 Stunden sp\u00e4ter, davon eine Stunde im Gep\u00e4ckwagen, in Aral an. Es war bereits halb 1 in der Nacht und wir nahmen das erste und einzige Hotel. In der Nacht quatschten wir mal wieder \u00fcber Gott und die Welt bis in den Morgengrauen und verschliefen dann auch den halben Tag. Den Nachmittag verbrachten wir mit der Suche nach einer aktuellen, regionalen Karte. Unsere 1:2 Mio., Stand 2008 war bereits zu alt f\u00fcr den Aralsee. Es gab leider keine Karte und es schien, als ob wir nach Kompass fahren m\u00fcssten. Da machten wir die n\u00e4chste Bekanntschaft. Bolat, ein Allrounder aus Aral, bot uns an, bei ihm zu schlafen. Den Weg konnte er nicht erkl\u00e4ren, weil es wohl so viele Abzweigungen gibt. Gleichzeitig bot er uns an, gegen Geld an den See zu fahren. Nachdem bei uns die ersten Zweifel verflogen waren und wir die Vorteile sahen – \u00dcbernachtung, Essen und ortskundiger Fahrer – nahmen wir das Angebot an. Es war mal wieder eine gute Entscheidung. Am n\u00e4chsten Morgen stiegen wir mit seinem Sohn in den LKW, eine Menge an Proviant und Wasser im Gep\u00e4ck. Vor der Fahrt haben sie nach dem Starten des Motors ein Gebet gesprochen. Diese Religion dachte ich noch… Als wir aber losgefahren sind, wurde mir schlagartig klar, warum. Das war die erste Rallye meines Lebens! Er fuhr mit seinem LKW mit 80 bis 100 Sachen \u00fcber den ausgetrockneten Teil des Sees mit Mordsl\u00f6chern – ca. 80 km weit! Ich war so mit dem Festhalten besch\u00e4ftigt, dass ich kaum die Digicam festhalten konnte. Da w\u00e4r die Cam von „Go bandit“ perfekt gewesen! (Wo bleibt die denn?!) Das w\u00e4re DAS Video gewesen!! Jedenfalls war es geiler und heftiger als jede Achterbahnfahrt! Bei einer kurzen Pause (der Motor lief hei\u00df und Bolat sch\u00fcttete Wasser nach), machte ich zitternd ein paar Aufnahmen. Unglaublich, was f\u00fcr ein Land. V\u00f6llig durchgesch\u00fcttelt am See angekommen, war es pl\u00f6tzlich still und wir sahen ihn. Der Aralsee, oder besser gesagt, das, was von ihm noch \u00fcbrig ist… Nichts konnte mich jetzt von einem Bad abhalten! Das Wasser ist ziemlich salzig, aber sauber und es war eigentlich ein Meer und kein See… Jedenfalls war es mal wieder einer der Momente, der mir G\u00e4nsehaut bereitete. Dem folgte noch ein bezaubernder Sonnenuntergang und super Gastfreundschaft! Der Bolat spielte am Abend Gitarre und sang kasachische Lieder. Dazu gab’s reichlich Essen und der Wodka floss…<\/p>\n

Nun geht es morgen endlich weiter. Hab das Gef\u00fchl, nicht mehr vom Fleck zu kommen… Entlang der M32 am Kosmodrom vorbei, immer weiter Richtung Shymkent, von dort aus n\u00f6rdlich an Usbekistan vorbei.<\/p>\n

Bemerkenswerte Sachen in Kasachstan: Es gibt hier klare Rollenverteilungen zwischen Frauen und M\u00e4nnern. Das Klischee trifft hier voll zu. Frauen hinter den Herd und M\u00e4nner machen irgendwas, denn arbeiten tun hier auch die Frauen…. Ah ja, sie sind nur beim Essen zusammen und haben nix zu sagen, sehr seltsam… Im Sommer schl\u00e4ft man hier auf dem Land drau\u00dfen, meist auf einer Art Veranda oder man stellt einfach das Bett in den Hof (eine alte T\u00fcr als Bett oder Reifen tun es auch). Gegessen wird aus einem gro\u00dfen Teller, der in der Mitte des Tisches steht. Dabei gibt es keine besonderen Tischmanieren…<\/p>\n

Impressions from Aral<\/span><\/p>\n

Alone the train ride was wild. We arrived at the train station in the morning at 3:30; that was 1.5 hours before the departure. Then we were told that we couldn\u2019t take the bikes with us because we didn\u2019t have tickets for them\u2026 When we had bought the tickets three days before, we had been assured that the bikes were included and that we could take them with us into the compartment\u2026 All counters were closed at that time and therefore it was impossible to buy the missing tickets. In broken Russian I could change the conductor\u2019s mind, and of course I had to pay him off. In this situation we were just happy that we could catch a ride on the train. It didn\u2019t look like it for some time. Our bikes were put into the luggage compartment with the luggage. Booking the compartment for two wasn\u2019t necessary anymore\u2026Moreover, we had to ride in the luggage compartment one station before Aral because the train had only a 5-minute stop in Aral. Who cares, when do you have a chance to ride in the luggage compartment? Everything went well, and we reached Aral 19 hours later; one we spent in the luggage compartment. It was already 12:30 am and we took the first and only hotel. During the night we were again talking about everything under sun and then slept away half the day. We spent the afternoon searching for an up-to-date regional map. Our map with a scale of 1:2 million from 2008 was already too old for the Aral Sea. Unfortunately, there wasn\u2019t a map and it seemed that we had to navigate by compass. Then we made another acquaintance. Bolat, an all-arounder from Aral, offered us a stay over night at his house. He couldn\u2019t explain the way because there were apparently too many turns to take. At the same time he offered us a ride to the Sea for money. After our first doubts were dispelled, we saw the advantages \u2013 a place for the night, food and a driver familiar with the place \u2013 and we accepted his offer. Again, it was a good decision. The next morning, we got into the truck with his son, our luggage full of supplies and water. After they started the engine and before we got moving, they said a prayer. \u201cThis religion,\u201d I thought\u2026 But when we had started, I suddenly realized why. It was the first rally of my life! With 80-100 km per hour he was driving across the dried out part of the Sea with huge holes \u2013 and that for 80 km! I was so busy hanging on that I could hardly hold the digital camera. The \u201cGo Bandit\u201d camera would have been perfect (Why\u2019s it taking so long to get here?!)! It would have been THE video!! Anyway, it was cooler and rocked more than any ride on a roller coaster! During a short break (the engine overheated and Bolat refilled water) I shakily took some pictures. Amazing, what a country. Totally shaken we reached the Sea, and it was suddenly quiet and we then saw it. The Aral Sea, or to be more precise, the remains of it\u2026 Nothing could stop me from swimming now! The water was pretty salty, but it was clean and it actually is a sea and not a lake (in German it is called \u201cLake Aral\u201d, not \u201cAral Sea\u201d)\u2026 Anyway, it was one of those moments that send shivers down my back with excitement. It was followed by a captivating sunset and super hospitality! Bolat played the guitar and sang Kazakh songs. And of course we had plenty of food and vodka\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

Tomorrow we\u2019re finally going to move on. I have the feeling that we\u2019re staying put\u2026 Along the M32, passing the Cosmodrome and straight ahead towards Shymkent, and northwards passing Uzbekistan from there on.<\/span><\/p>\n

A few remarkable things about Kazakhstan: The roles of women and men are clearly allocated. The clich\u00e9 totally applies here. Women are in the kitchen, and men do anything because it\u2019s also the women who do the work here\u2026 Oh, and women and men are only together during meals, and women are nobodies\u2026 During the summer, people sleep outside, mostly on a kind of porch or they simply put a bed into the courtyard (an old door or tires will do as beds too). Meals are taken from one large plate being in the center of the table. Thereby there aren\u2019t any special eating manners\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n
